Sirens

Valkyrie is pleased to announce the formation of two race teams, proudly sponsored by local Canberra business, Siren Bar and Restaurant Gungahlin.

The two race teams are essentially formed by women of similar grade, speed, experience and ability and are comprised of members of the Valkyrie development squad who have made a commitment to consistent training, and racing - both locally in criterium and road races, but also in larger events such as the Tour De Riverina, the Blayney to Bathurst, the Tour of Bright and the Women's and Juniors DBR Tour in 2012.

Members of the race teams are listed below, both teams have some spaces still available.

Background on the broader Valkyrie Vikings squad:

Valkyrie is a development program for women cyclists and entry is open to women who want to improve their cycling, and caters for a range of levels - there are Valkyries winning races and there are Valkyries who have just started.

Cycling solo is great, but cycling with others can be even better! Bunch riding helps you to push your fitness boundaries, learn many useful cycling skills and socialise with others who have similar interests. Club cycling and events can be quite intimidating to women. Cycling as a race sport is still quite heavily dominated by men, and the specialised clothing and equipment used can become a further deterrent to women joining cycling groups. Don’t be put off though! You don’t have to be the fastest, or have the latest most expensive equipment to be part of the Valkyrie Vikings. Enthusiasm and a commitment to attending regular training sessions are some of the main requirements.
